I Am Jealous Of Coupon Users

I Could Become an Extreme Couponer

At least I am sure I would be if Australia had food coupons. I am so caught up in the extreme couponing show that I watch each and every episode at least twice. I am only tormenting myself as there is nothing here to compare, so I will never be able to safe the money I see these couponers save.

Both The Foxx and I use Scoopon and other similiar sites to save money on Holiday accomodation, Restaurants and games of golf. But the only savings I have found on food is a $1 coupon for organic chicken breasts which were so expensive they are out of my league anyway.

So I will continue to watch Extreme couponing on TV and dream.

Easter is over now and the Foxx has taken himself off to bed to get in a good night's sleep ready to start back work tomorrow. His wages go into the bank tomorrow and we have not had a chance to sit down this weekend and work out our plan of attack for this fortnight. There will be the usual list of suspects, rent, cc, food, petrol and bills. But I am hoping for savings as well, so fingers crossed.

In 2 weeks time my Daughter-in-Law will be holding her baby shower, so that is going to be my next  expense, trying to find a suitable gift which will also fit in with my more frugal ways. I find buying presents the hardest thing to cut back my spending on, I just love to give and give big.
Although having The Foxx onboard makes it harder for me to spend up as he has always looked down on my gift giving amounts, I always called him Scroodge. So lets find what Mrs. Frugal and Scroodge can find for a baby shower gift LOL

I will be Grocery shopping tomorrow and menu planning so a big day for me. Oh I nearly forgot to mention that at last I made my washing powder and I can't wait to try it out. More about this in another post.

  1. All this talk about food makes me realize that I meant to make some turkey chili today but I forgot to soak the beans!! Oh, darn. AND I didn't take the ground turkey out of the freezer either so I guess that will wait for another day. I'm a lousy meal planner...I tend to make big batches of stuff and when it's gone I make something else. All three of us eat at different times because of our work schedules so menu planning just doesn't work around here. It's a good thing we all know how to cook!!
There are NO food coupons in Canada either - it just sucks. I get so jealous of those people on Extreme Couponing too with their two carts filled to overflowing and then their bill comes to $5.00. Grrrrrrrrr!

    1. Jane I loved your list of things you want to do when you retire and who would have known you were a talented Sculptor, so thanks for sharing that with us.
Still cannot comment on your blog, it's the only one I have any problems with, Boo hoo......

  2. I don't recall if you can sew or not. Didn't mean that as a put down. I make baby hooded towels out of a regular bath towel with a matching wash cloth. You simply fold the wash cloth from corner to corner so it is in the shape of a triangle, then fold it back a little for a cuff and you have the hood to sew on to your towel.

You can search the net for detailed instructions. I have been making these for almost 30 years for baby gifts. I was given one of these when my oldest son was born and it was the favorite towel for him for years. You can get nice towels on sale and make a couple, Believe me these stand the test of time and are a well used gift.

Why could I not have worked that out for myself ????

  3. Don't be jealous who needs 150 bottles of mustard, or 300 bottles of deodorant. Most coupons are for convenience foods like waffles that are pre made, yuck or expensive name brands that are more expensive even with the coupon. Now don't get me wrong I will use a coupon if I think it is worth it. But I don't spend a lot of time looking for them.

    1. Apparently only about 3% of all coupons printed are ever used, I am sure we could have bumped that amount up LOL

  5. I tend to agree with Kim, most of the "extreme couponers" are more like "extreme hoarders" if you ask me. It's different to grab a good amount of items you actually USE when you get a great deal, but i've seen "extremists" buy 20 bags of diapers 'cause they were "free" or a "good deal" who didn't even HAVE KIDS OR A HUSBAND. Like come on... lol!

Hope you find a good baby gift within your budget!! :)

    1. Carla I was very impressed by the couponers who made up parcels for the Military. I know that I would end up giving it all away, still I would love to have the option....

  6. having to agree with above! I use some of them - but not crazy like they do.

Good Luck with the baby show gift ---- You could make some seriously cute coupons for free baby sitting or free housecleaning (where you go clean the house a few times) free meal coupons...

  7. Jp I am always the first to put my hand up for babysitting, not sure about the housecleaning as they live some distance away from me, still that is an excellent idea
